GOP Rep. Peter King Compares Kneeling Protests During Anthem to ‘Players Giving Nazi Salutes’

Congressman Peter King (R- NY) is outraged by NFL players kneeling during the national anthem, and he made a rather stunning comparison on Twitter today.

After the NFL announced players who kneel will be fined, New York Jets chairman Christopher Johnson said he would not only stand by players who kneel, but would deal with any fines incurred.

King was pretty incensed by that, and in his response he compared kneeling during the national anthem to NAZI SALUTES:

Disgraceful that @nyjets owner will pay fines for players who kneel for National Anthem. Encouraging a movement premised on lies vs. police. Would he support all player protests? Would he pay fines of players giving Nazi salutes or spew racism? It’s time to say goodbye to Jets!

Even if you don’t agree with the protests, comparing them to Nazi salutes is ridiculous.

Some elected officials, most notably President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, celebrated the NFL decision this week, and the President went so far as to blithely suggest that players who kneel during the anthem maybe “shouldn’t be in the country.” Meanwhile, the VP channeled Charlie Sheen and tweeted, “#Winning.”
