GOP Senator: Merrick Garland Should Be The New FBI Director

On Thursday, Senator Mike Lee offered a eyebrow-raising solution to ongoing controversy over President Donald Trump‘s firing of FBI Director James Comey. The Utah Republican proposed on Twitter that the President name his predecessor’s failed Supreme Court nominee to lead the federal agency.
Instead of a special prosecutor, @realDonaldTrump should nominate Merrick Garland to replace James Comey.

Politico’s Seung Min Kim reported on Twitter that the conservative politician actually forwarded this proposal with Trump administration officials.

Good idea @SenMikeLee. Former prosecutor Merrick Garland for FBI Director is great idea. Need special prosecutor toohttps://t.co/HjMdwIGxAq

Merrick Garland investigated Marion Barry and prosecuted Timothy McVeigh. He’d actually probably make a good FBI Director.

Can’t tell if he’s trolling or if this would be a clever strategic play https://t.co/4jPkogTiD1

@SenMikeLee @realDonaldTrump Good idea. and Garland should wait until the announcement to publicly tell the fascist you support to shove his nomination up his… nose.
