Helen Thomas Receives ‘Journalism Award’ From PLO For ‘Supporting Palestine In West’

Legendary (former) White House correspondent Helen Thomas was infamously forced to into retirement following her suggestion that Jewish people should “get the hell out of Palestine.” The 2010 incident is back in the news now: Palestinians are honoring her with, yes, a journalism award. Citing her commitment to the Palestinian cause.

The PLO presented the award to Thomas, acknowledging “all of her actions supporting Palestine in the West.” Israel’s reaction was predictably a negative one. Michael Oren, Israel’s ambassador the U.S., said he was “appalled” and that Thomas was “teaching Palestinian children to hate the Jewish State and to glorify suicide bombers.”

After the controversy, Thomas herself had called the accusations of anti-Semitism “baloney,” adding that “you cannot criticize Israel in this country.” Nonetheless, a journalism award from the PLO? Not necessarily what an objective journalist would be aiming for.
