A woman in Florida is now speaking out about a brutal and rare condition that is making life for her “torture.”
Julie Reid told ABC affiliate WFTS that she after developing a condition called cholinergic urticaria, she has become allergic to her own sweat and tears. “It’s torture living like this, it’s torture. I just feel like a monster now,” she heartbreakingly reveals in the interview.
According to Reid, she developed the condition while working at a gym several years ago. She now is forced to avoid hot showers and often stays in-doors altogether to avoid the skin reaction that is triggered by her own body’s sweat.

“I went from being a gymnast and a dancer, to not being able to walk through the grocery store, during the day, without receiving hurtful stares,” she continued. The 28-year-old also revealed that has a result of her condition, she has gained nearly 100 pounds in the last three years.
She admits the physiological toll that the change has taken, as most day-to-day activities have largely grown impossible given how badly her body reacts. “I’m allergic to myself… [you don’t] realize how much your body sweats until you become allergic to it. I would say it’s one step shy of being allergic to breathing or blinking.”
