Irish Band Who Sang About Obama Releases New Song About O’Malley
Remember “There’s No One as Irish as Barack Obama“? You know, the godawful viral musical hit about then Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama penned by the Corrigan Brothers? Well a new spiritual (and literal) sequel, “He’s Gonna Be President, Martin O’Malley,” was just released by the Irish band. This time, former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley‘s Irish heritage gets top billing.
According to the Baltimore Sun, the Corrigan Brothers first took interest in the Taylor Swift-singing politician back in 2009. The band headlined the Irish-American Democrats Inaugural Ball in Washington, D.C., and O’Malley introduced them to the attendees.
“We spent a lot of time with him that night; we exchanged musical tales and he kindly gave us copies of CDs of his own music,” said Ger Corrigan. “We found him to be really interested in people, very selfless and really sincere as well as having a genuine concern for Irish issues and Irish people.”
Aside from a few obvious lyrical changes, however, the Corrigan Brothers’ latest would-be viral hit is nothing more than self-plagiarism. It uses the same scales, progressions and structure as their Obama tune, and some of the rhyming schemes remain unchanged.
So far, all that exists is the above clip, which was set to a photo of the band and O’Malley from back in 2009. However, they plan on producing and releasing an official music video something in December.
