Jon Ralston Claims Nevada Paper Dumped His 2012 Column to ‘Protect’ Harry Reid
Longtime Nevada political commentator Jon Ralston claims that a column he wrote in 2012 critical of Harry Reid was pulled because the editor of the newspaper in question wanted to protect his friend Reid.
Ralston brought it up because of Reid’s recent comments about him targeting Mitt Romney in 2012. Reid infamously questioned on the Senate floor whether Romney had paid his taxes, basically accusing him of tax evasion, and told CNN this week he has zero regrets.
Ralston unearthed a column he wrote in 2012 on the matter, heavily criticizing Reid, and revealed on his blog that The Las Vegas Sun did not run it at the time, because of the editor’s connections to the Democratic Senate leader:
It’s finally time to publish a column I wrote contemporaneously with the Nevada senator’s McCarthy-like tactic during the 2012 campaign. The column was never published because Las Vegas Sun Editor Brian Greenspun attempted to protect his friend, Reid, from the criticism.
I never wrote for the Sun again.
Back in 2010, then-Reid opponent Sharron Angle accused Reid of pressuring the paper to change a headline on a column of Ralston’s critical of Reid’s debate performance. Ralston said at the time he didn’t believe Reid was involved.
