Little House on the Prairie Star Announces Her Run for Congress
Melissa Gilbert, the actress best known for portraying Laura Ingalls Wilder on the hit television series Little House on the Prairie, has set her eyes on a much larger, taxpayer-funded house in Washington, D.C.
Gilbert announced on Monday afternoon that she would be running as a Democrat to challenge Republican incumbent Mike Bishop in the upcoming election for Michigan’s 8th congressional district seat. Bishop has held the spot since 2014.
Excited to announce my run for U.S. Congress in Michigan’s 8th. Please join me in my fight for working families. http://t.co/WTUEZukVeX

Her Twitter announcement includes a link to GilbertForMichigan.com, where the actress says she’s “running for Congress to make life a little easier for all the families who feel they have fallen through the cracks in today’s economy.”
“I believe building a new economy is a team effort,” says Gilbert, “and we need to bring fresh voices to the table to get the job done.”
Aside from links to social media pages, a newsletter signup and a link for contributions, Gilbert’s campaign page doesn’t feature much in terms of policies and opinions. However, considering the vast record of her past forever committed to record in Little House on the Prairie, we at least have some idea as to what she thinks about healthcare reform.
