Maher Razzes Ralph Reed on Religion: How Can There Be Multiple ‘One True Faith’s?

In the Overtime segment of last night’s Real Time, Bill Maher continued to roast Christian conservative Ralph Reed about religion and how all these religions can exist all over the world, yet there is somehow this concept of a “one true faith” that knows better than all others. Maher picked up on this point early on in the segment when Reed mentioned he switched denominations twice, observing, “So this is the third one true faith for you.”

But he circled back to the same topic towards the end of the segment, when he asked Reed why all these different religions exist if there’s supposed to be just one way, one absolutely right way to worship God. Reed said that God is “so all-knowing and so all-merciful,” and the point of faith is “he doesn’t want you to be a robot, he wants you to find him.”

But Maher couldn’t help but mockingly musing on how strange it is that somehow, Muslims are being born in Muslim countries and Jews are being born in Brooklyn every day.
