McCain Says He Will Skip GOP Convention
Sen. John McCain said he would sit out the Republican National Convention in Cleveland this July in order to focus on his own reelection campaign, The Hill reported Tuesday.
McCain is facing a tough reelection in his home state of Arizona against Democratic candidate Ann Kirkpatrick; he also faces the prospect of a late primary, which will take place on Aug. 30, some weeks after the RNC.
McCain’s decision reflects a trend, reported on by CNN last week, of Republicans planning to sit out what is expected to be a rancorous, contested convention, in order to put some distance between themselves and the fracas and to focus on local races.
