Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) took a major swipe at Steve Bannon today by more or less saying it’s all his fault Republicans lost a senate seat in a solid red state like Alabama.
In a final press conference before Christmas, McConnell said that the congressional GOP will start to focus on promoting candidates with solid chances of getting elected in next year’s midterm elections. McConnell predicted that things will get quite competitive, even as he noted “we will be supporting people who can actually win.”
These remarks seemed to be a subtle jab at Bannon, who constantly stood by Roy Moore until the controversial politician and alleged sexual abuser of children was defeated by Doug Jones. Eventually, McConnell was asked flat out whether he blames Bannon for what happened in Alabama earlier this month.
“Let me just say this,” McConnell answered, “the political genius on display throwing away a Senate seat in the reddest state in America is hard to ignore.”
Certainly no love lost between these two political nemeses.
