Melania Trump Calls For Ouster of NatSec Adviser: She ‘No Longer Deserves the Honor’ of Working in WH
Less than a week after the firing of Jeff Sessions, there’s already new reporting on internal White House strife. And First Lady Melania Trump is publicly calling for the ouster of a top administration aide.
The Wall Street Journal reported earlier today that President Donald Trump is ready for another big shake-up, particularly getting rid of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. And if she goes, then chief of staff John Kelly may be next out the door.
One slightly less notable news item in the report concerned Mira Ricardel, the White House deputy national security adviser, and how Trump has decided to remove her:
The president became involved in that decision at the urging of first lady Melania Trump, whose staff battled with Ms. Ricardel during the first lady’s trip to Africa last month over seating on the plane and requests to use National Security Council resources, according to people familiar with the matter.
The first lady’s team told the president that they suspect Ms. Ricardel is behind some negative stories about Ms. Trump and her staff.
When asked about Ricardel today, FLOTUS spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham gave a rather direct response:
Just asked the First Lady’s office about deputy national security advisor Mira Ricardel : “It is the position of the Office of the First Lady that she no longer deserves the honor of serving in this White House,” Stephanie Grisham The First Lady’s communication director to @ABC
