Mueller Probe Reportedly Zeroing in on Jared Kushner’s Role in Comey Firing

CNN is reporting that White House senior advisor (and President Donald Trump‘s son-in-law) Jared Kushner has recently turned over documents to Special Counsel Robert Mueller as investigators have begun zeroing in on Kushner’s role in former FBI Director James Comey’s firing. This would appear to point to the fact that Mueller’s probe is looking at potential obstruction of justice charges against the president and others.

“It’s a sign that the investigators are reaching into the inner circle and extended beyond the 2016 campaign to actions taken at the White House by high-level officials,” CNN reporter Evan Perez told anchor Jake Tapper today. “It’s not clear how Kushner’s advice to the president might play a part in all of this.”

Perez went on to note that his sources had told him that Kushner so far isn’t the target of this investigation and that Kushner voluntarily turned over documents related to the campaign, the transition team, and Russia.

CNN’s Pamela Brown added that “some sources have told us that Kushner was a driver in the decision — that he was encouraging the decision, other sources have downplayed that, just saying that he was merely supportive of the decision” to fire Comey.

Many politicians and pundits have pointed to the Comey firing as obstruction of justice, especially after Trump told NBC News’ Lester Holt that the Russia investigation played a part in Comey’s termination and the president bragged to Russian officials that getting rid of “nut job” Comey made the Russian investigation easier.
