‘Trump and Russia is a Made Up Story’: Trump Admits It Was Partly Behind Sacking Comey
During tonight’s much-anticipated interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt, President Donald Trump seemingly revealed that it was indeed the investigation into Russia that was at least partially behind his decision to sack FBI Director James Comey.
With Democrats (and some Republicans) saying the timing of Comey’s firing was troubling and potentially part of a coverup into the FBI’s investigation, it is likely they were given even more ammunition by the president’s own words.
After saying he had already made the decision to can Comey even before getting a recommendation from the deputy attorney general, Trump then said the following:
“I was going to fire Comey knowing there was no good time to do it, and in fact, when I decided to just do it, I said to myself, I said, you know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made up story. It’s an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election they could have won.”
