Remember last year when we all found out what the town seal of Whitesboro, New York was?
Yes, amid all the outrage about Confederate symbols, this town seal got a lot of people’s attention. Mayor Patrick O’Connor explained at the time, “If people take the time to do that and they reach out to us, or they do the research themselves, it’s actually a very accurate depiction of friendly wrestling matches that took place back in those days.”
However, it appears there was enough outrage brewing about the town seal to get the residents of the Whitesboro to vote on whether the seal should be replaced. And according to Syracuse.com, of the 212 votes cast, 157 were against changing the town seal.
O’Connor said he had plenty of calls from people asking why the village was doing this anyway. He said, “We wanted to get a feeling from them on what image they want to represent their history.”
