NY1 Report Suggests Rep. Anthony Weiner Might Resign In A Couple Of Days

Speculation is starting to rise that Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) will soon succumb to intense pressure to step down from his congressional seat as a result of his recent sexting scandal that has dominated the opinion and political media landscape over since the story broke on Memorial Day weekend. The most recent public official that is ostensibly calling for his resignation is President Obama, who told NBC’s Ann Curry that if it were him, he would resign. This follows similar comments made last week by Nancy Pelosi and DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz.

The report by NY1 cites fellow New York congressional Democrat Carolyn McCarthy who appears to have told NY1 that she was hearing that he might resin soon. According to NY News:

House Democrats are meeting today to discuss Congressman Anthony Weiner’s sexting scandal as new speculation from within the New York delegation suggests a resignation may be coming soon.

Long Island Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy said today that she was hearing he might resign in “a couple of days.”

She did not say where she got that information from.

Meantime, House Speaker John Boehner — who has stayed out of the debate over Weiner’s future — is the latest high ranking politician to weigh-in on Weiner’s future.

When asked by reporters today if he thought the congressman should resign, Boehner answered “yes.”
