Obama Interviews The Wire Creator About Criminal Justice Reform

 

President Obama invited The Wire creator David Simon to the White House to have an in-depth discussion about criminal justice reform. But Obama started off by praising The Wire as one of the finest works of televised art he’s seen in the past few decades. From there, Obama and Simon talked about issues related to incarceration and the drug war raised by the hit HBO series.

They talked in-depth about law enforcement cracking down on the drug trade and the “massive trend towards incarceration, even towards non-violent drug offenders” that disproportionately affects minorities.
