Pat Buchanan: It’s ‘Libel and Slander on Police’ to Push Body Cameras
President Obama recently proposed body cameras for police officers across the country in reaction to cases like Ferguson where having video evidence would provide more clarity. And even some very pro-police pundits have expressed support for the idea since cameras can end up giving weight to the officer’s side of the story.
But Pat Buchanan is very resistant to the idea, and argued on Newsmax TV today that doing so is basically blaming white police officers for being the violent instigators, as opposed to the people they confront. He condemned Obama and Eric Holder for painting a picture of Ferguson as some kind of “racist hellhole,” and charges that young black males are the “most violent community per capita” in the country.
And so for him, body cameras are the government’s way of saying cops are to blame for “lethal violence.” Buchanan said, “That is a libel and a slander on America, and a libel and a slander on police.”
