UPDATE: Joe Paterno Dies At Age 85

 

UPDATE 2:Fox News confirms that Joe Paterno has died. The cable news network was the first to report the former Penn State football coach’s passing.

“It is with great sadness that we announce that Joe Paterno passed away earlier today,” according to a family statement said. “His loss leaves a void in our lives that will never be filled.”

UPDATE: A Paterno family spokesperson has denied a report by CBS that former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno is dead.


Former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has been taken off a respirator and is gravely ill, according to various sources.

Paterno had been diagnosed with lung cancer in November, and was struggling for survival, with his extended family reportedly at his bedside at his University Park home.

Onward State reported that Paterno was taken off his respirator early Saturday morning.





Paterno, 85, was the all-time winningest coach in Division I football history, with 409 career victories.
