Romney Aide Physically Barricades Press From Asking Questions On Ropeline
Things got ugly on Mitt Romney‘s campaign trail Wednesday when an overzealous Romney aide physically blocked reporters from the rope line after a speaking event in Florida. “We’re not going to do this,” Krista Warren shouted as she tried to prevent Romney’s embed reporters from asking questions of the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
Earlier in the day, when reporters were notified they weren’t going to be able to ask Romney any questions, one unidentified reporter protested “Isn’t that our decision?”
Tensions later flared as reporters gathered at the rope line where Romney greeted voters. When they refused to leave, campaign aides like Warren used physical force to prevent the reporters from accessing the rope line.
Despite Warren’s efforts, “most reporters still made it to the ropeline at the Romney event, despite USSS and campaign asking us to leave and stop, but no q’s answered,” ABC News’ Emily Friedman claimed.
A Romney spokesperson eventually commented, telling Politico’s Dylan Byers, “This was an error on the part of the campaign staff and volunteers. We have reminded them that press is allowed on the rope line to record the governor’s interactions with voters.”
