Ryan, Bernie, and Hillary React to Obama’s Emotional Appeal for Gun Control
Following President Obama‘s emotional speech unveiling his plans for gun control, reactions from various political figures have poured in on Twitter. Unsurprisingly, the Democratic side reacted approvingly to the speech, with reactions from Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.
Thank you, @POTUS, for taking a crucial step forward on gun violence. Our next president has to build on that progress—not rip it away. -H

.@POTUS is right: We can protect the Second Amendment while protecting our families and communities from gun violence. And we have to.

On the conservative side, however, House Speaker Paul Ryan released a prepared follow-up to yesterday’s statement, saying Obama’s speech was a form of intimidation that undermined liberties by targeting lawful citizens over criminals and terrorists.
“No matter what President Obama says, his word does not trump the Second Amendment. We will conduct vigilant oversight,” Ryan said in his statement. “His executive order will no doubt be challenged in the courts. Ultimately, everything the president has done can be overturned by a Republican president, which is another reason we must win in November.”
The Republican National Committee has also released a reaction to the conference, saying Obama and the left have an “obsession with restricting the Second Amendment,” and that the public will not tolerate the “dangerous power grab” of executive actions.
