Sarah Palin Is The New Da Vinci Code

144-874Palin_Fort_Bragg.sff.embedded.prod_affiliate.56You will not, I think, be surprised to hear that Sarah Palin is selling a lot of books. Last week The Daily Beast reported that Palin had sold 300,000 copies of Going Rogue in the first day alone (that was last Tuesday, meaning we have officially completed one full week of Sarah Palin).

A large chunk of that number may have come from the heartland chains such as Walmart, Target, Sam’s Club and Kroger, which Politico says have “notched 700,000 in sales in its first week, counting pre-orders.” Yowzer.

When the Beast crunched the numbers they determined that Palin would need to sell 1.6 million books in order to earn out her $7 million advance, and they thought that unlikely to happen. But one look at these numbers and you have to think, never say never. Also no word yet on Hollywood. If not a major motion picture, this is definitely some sort of miniseries waiting to happen. Anyone want to start making casting suggestions?

Below, fans in line at a Going Rogue book signing in Ohio talk about why they have come out to meet Palin. It also happens to be a somewhat fascinating look at the difference between selling books and and selling policies.
