Satanic Temple Offers to Protect Muslims From Backlash of Paris Attack
As America continues to observe a new wave of Islamophobia in the wake of the Paris attacks, Muslims are now getting the support of a group that might not help alleviate the fears of those who automatically say Islam is evil.
Two state chapters of the Satanic Temple have offered to watch the backs of Muslims and Sikhs who are afraid to go about their business for fear of being the victims of hate-crimes. This comes as the country continues to debate the merits of whether America has a moral obligation to let Syrian refugees into the country, or if measures should be taken to vet them further or demand they prove their Christianity.
“If there is anyone in the San Jose region who is Muslim and afraid to leave their home out of fear for some kind of backlash, don’t hesitate to reach out to us,” the Temple’s San Jose chapter posted on Facebook. “We would be glad to escort you where you need to go without advertising our presence.”
The Temple’s Minneapolis chapter also got on board, posting “It’s not to ride the tide of sentiment or capitalize on people for further name recognition. Let us know if you or someone you know need the sort of assistance we are offering.”
RT’s report noted that both messages have received a share of appreciation with some commenters asking to volunteer, or to say that the Temple is showing the care that some Christians won’t.
