Sears Will No Longer Sell Arabic ‘Infidel’ Hat on Their Website
Sears will no longer be selling a hat that’s been a focus of recent Twitter backlash.
CAIR activist Imraan Siddiqi tweeted out a picture of the “infidel” hat earlier today, wondering what the major retailer was doing selling a hat for two months that looked like it belonged on “fringe” sites:
Instead of buying your "Infidel" hat from fringe websites – you can now get from @Sears?

Is @Sears becoming the official outfitter of armed mosque protestors? pic.twitter.com/iImWxrtdRO

Ever since 9/11, a number of conservative groups have reportedly taken the word “infidel” in order to re-purpose the term from the rejection of religion to a more Islamophobic angle. The term was frequently used by extremists to mean non-Islamic Westerners, but has also been seen frequently at protests before mosques and Islamic communities.
In response to Siddiqi and other reported concerns, Sears tweeted to tell him the retailers would look into the item, which was sold by third-party seller Dreamway Trading on their website:
@imraansiddiqi Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are advising our online team and requesting they review this 3rd party item

And now Forbes is reporting that the hat will be removed from Sears’ website.
