Sony Might Not Release The Interview at All
So over the course of this insane day of Sony running as fast as it can from The Interview, there were a lot of suggestions that Sony released it straight to video on demand. That may not be happening. In fact, Sony might not even release it at all.
In a statement obtained by Deadline, a spokesperson for Sony said, “Sony Pictures has no further release plans for the film.”
Yes, you read that right. Sony is, apparently, not even considering a later release date or video on demand. They just figure they’re not going to release it since it’s been such a big headache for them.
So, just to recap: in the past 24 hours, 1) Sony gave permission for theaters to avoid screening the movie, 2) the biggest theater chains in the country took them up on it, 3) Sony dropped its planned December 25th release date, and 4) they decided to maybe just not ever show it. Ever.
Oh, and the U.S. government believes it really was North Korea behind the whole thing.
Wow that is quite a turnaround.
