Star Trek Actress Disowns Documentary She Appears In Promoting Bad Science

There is a new documentary promoting the scientifically inaccurate idea that the sun revolves around the earth. Sounds kooky, obviously, but the real issue came from the use of non-crazy people like Michio Kaku, Lawrence Krauss, and Star Trek actress Kate Mulgrew in the trailer for the movie, and now two of the aforementioned people have publicly disowned the entire thing. (By the way, Robert Sungenis, the man behind the movie, is a bit of a Holocaust denier.)

Krauss writes in Slate that he discovered a month ago that clips of him were used in this documentary, explaining, “[E]ither the producers used clips of me that were in the public domain, or they bought them from other production companies that I may have given some rights to distribute my interviews to, or they may have interviewed me under false pretenses, in which case I probably signed some release.”

In any case, he completely disowned the movie and any potential involvement he may end up having in the final version. But it was a bit jarring to hear yesterday that Kate Mulgrew, of Star Trek: Voyager fame, was narrating this documentary. Here’s the trailer for the movie, narrated by Mulgrew herself:

Thankfully, Mulgrew put out a statement on her Facebook page clarifying that she was “misinformed” about the film’s content.

“I do not subscribe to anything Robert Sungenis has written regarding science and history and, had I known of his involvement, would most certainly have avoided this documentary. I was a voice for hire, and a misinformed one, at that. I apologize for any confusion that my voice on this trailer may have caused.”
