State Dept Shuts Down Unclassified Email System After Hacking
State Department computer security was breached recently in a hacking attempt that led to the precautionary shutdown of State’s entire unclassified email system.
One senior State Dept. official said yesterday that there was some “activity of concern” in their computer system during an incident mere weeks ago. This official assured that there was “no compromise of any of the Department’s classified systems,” but they’re still taking precautions nonetheless.
This hacking attempt reportedly came around the same time the White House computer system was targeted by hackers, believed to have come from the Russian government. And it’s possible they’re also responsible for this hack.
Vladimir Putin was asked about the accusations weeks ago, and a spokesman responded, “Is there any evidence?”
