Sterling Won’t Pay Fine, Reportedly Planning to Sue NBA
Despite how contrite and apologetic Donald Sterling came across as in his recent CNN interview, Sterling’s attorney, according to two separate reports, sent a letter to the NBA saying the Clippers owner would refuse to pay the $2.5 million fine levied against him and beyond that, he might file a lawsuit against the NBA.
Maxwell Blecher reportedly sent this letter to the NBA, stating outright, “We reject your demand for payment.” He claims that Sterling was in no way violating the NBA constitution, and that the “due process rights” of the Sterlings have been violated by the NBA’s actions.
Sterling has already missed the deadline for paying the fine this week. In his CNN interview, Sterling was very apologetic and took responsibility for his words (even if he did argue V. Stiviano basically tricked him into saying those things and did dig himself into a deeper hole with his comments about Magic Johnson).
