Tantaros: Obama Nominating Qualified Centrist to SCOTUS Would Be a Shady, Political ‘Trap’
Responding to reports that President Barack Obama may be tapping Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval to be his nominee to the Supreme Court, Fox’s Andrea Tantatos ardently dismissed the selection of a qualified centrist Republican as little more than a shady, political “trap.”
Senate Republicans have of course balked at the idea of even holding hearings to fill the seat left vacant by Justice Antonin Scalia. But rather than view Obama’s selection as an effort to bring Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to the table and build consensus, the Outnumbered co-host argued that it was a deeply cynical move on the president’s part to ensnare Republicans and “embarrass” McConnell.
Tantaros described Sandoval as “a centrist, former federal judge, who once called Obamacare, quote, ‘unconstitutional’ and vowed to abolish it.” She added that she didn’t think Sandoval was a “serious choice.” Arguing with her co-hosts and guest Geraldo Rivera, Tantaros insisted that she wasn’t “questioning his qualifications,” but doubted that he was a “legitimate” pick.
In other words, by floating a centrist successor and giving Republicans an opportunity to reconsider their recalcitrance, the president has merely laid “a serious trap.”

UPDATE: In any event, Sandoval withdrew himself from consideration.
