Ted Cruz Baselessly Accuses Beto O’Rourke of Illegally Funding Migrant Caravan
In a tweet today, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) baselessly accused his opponent Rep. Beto O’Rourke (R-TX) of funding the migrant caravan making its way through Central America toward the U.S.
“Two basic Qs every reporter should ask Beto today: (1) should the ‘caravan’ be allowed to cross illegally into Texas? (Beto refuses to answer.) And (2) did your campaign dollars illegally fund their doing so?” Cruz tweeted.

O’Rourke has not publicly commented on Cruz’s accusation, which he made without evidence, but shortly after the Republican lawmaker posted his smear, O’Rourke shared a video of him decrying the anti-immigrant rhetoric that has fueled the caravan story.

The caravan of several thousand is still hundreds of miles away and is not expected to arrive to the U.S. for several more weeks, if any of the migrants — who are mostly fleeing violence and economic instability in their home countries — make it all the way through Mexico.
Cruz’s attack comes a few days before voters in Texas hit the polls to decide a widely publicized race.
