The National Enquirer Claim of ‘Pervy Ted’ Cruz ‘Caught Cheating’ With Five Mistresses is Fascinating and Flawed

So, here’s the basic gist of the hot Friday gossip: a mere two days after calling Heidi Cruz the “love of [his] life,” Ted Cruz is in the middle of a cheating scandal. A “scandal” not because its necessarily true but because these days, when even The National Enquirer  makes an allegation it gets picked up in the mainstream media .

The Enquirer, of course, is the same publication that brought us the entirely unsubstantiated President Barack Obama sex scandal rumors and got schooled by Paula Deen for printing total untruths about her family. Their reputation is such that Business Insider actually put out a list called, “11 Crazy National Enquirer Stories That Turned Out to Be True.”

Still, there are are a host of stories that the weekly has gotten right. They knew about Tiger Woodsmany lovers before Elin Nordegren ever did and they’re the ones who claim they put the nail in the coffin of noted king of political sex scandals, Anthony Weiner, by running exclusive photos of him wearing lingerie a day before his official resignation. Their most notable reveal was John Edwardsaffair with Rielle Hunter, so if there’s one thing they do pretty well, it’s busting extra-marital philanderers.

Nevertheless, as one reads the Enquirer report that claiming Cruz has had five mistresses, keeping the grains of salt handy seems prudent.

First, look at all these exclamation points:

Reading that is one way to get your heart rate up enough to rally through the last day of the week.

Now, here’s what they’re saying:

“Private detectives are digging into at least five affairs Ted Cruz supposedly had,” claimed a Washington insider.

“The leaked details are an attempt to destroy what’s left of his White House campaign!”

The ENQUIRER reports that Cruz’s claimed mistresses include a foxy political consultant and a high-placed D.C. attorney!

There are also whispers of other intimate late-night sessions Ted has had in Washington — and even a wild sex worker makes the cut!

“Whispers” and “Washington insiders,” huh? In fairness, that could be any local who happens to live in D.C. and wanted to share their thoughts with a national paper. There isn’t much to grasp here yet.

One person who absolutely does not buy into the whispers is Cruz himself. He released the following statement on Facebook:

I want to be crystal clear: these attacks are garbage. For Donald J. Trump to enlist his friends at the National…

Posted by Ted Cruz on Friday, March 25, 2016

For his part, he claims to believe Trump is behind it all. But, of course, the ultimate question isn’t who is behind it but whether there is any truth to it.
