Trump’s Lonely Photo Op Targeting Pelosi and Schumer Inspires Twitter Memes

President Donald Trump was set to bargain today with Democrat congressional leaders Senator Chuck Schumer and Representative Nancy Pelosi, but these plans went downhill after he tweeted that he didn’t “see a deal” happening any time soon.
Despite the fact that a government shutdown is only days away if a deal isn’t made soon, Trump felt the need to rile up his Democrat opponents by tweeting the following this morning:
Meeting with “Chuck and Nancy” today about keeping government open and working. Problem is they want illegal immigrants flooding into our Country unchecked, are weak on Crime and want to substantially RAISE Taxes. I don’t see a deal!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 28, 2017
In response, the Democratic leaders cancelled the meeting, which led Pelosi to fire off a tweet of her own afterwards:
.@realDonaldTrump now knows that his verbal abuse will no longer be tolerated. His empty chair photo opp showed he’s more interested in stunts than in addressing the needs of the American people. Poor Ryan and McConnell relegated to props. Sad!
— Nancy Pelosi (@NancyPelosi) November 28, 2017
While his opponents may have cancelled the meeting, the president still decided to show up and stage a photo op in an attempt to embarrasses his Democratic colleagues. Trump sat on a long wooden table with two chairs flanking him; to his right a label read “Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer” and to his left a sign read “House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.”
Immediately after Trump set this scene, Twitter got right to work by creating their memes, mocking the president, and bringing back similar government shutdown-related photos from years past. See the best tweets inspired by Trump’s lonely table photo op below:

Oh God, Trump is going to ask the empty chairs their favorite thing about his presidency, isn’t he pic.twitter.com/NjJDQWPTQJ

Previous time Trump met with congressional leaders of both parties, Ryan and McConnell were closest to him. Wonder why those spots were reserved for Pelosi and Schumer this time … pic.twitter.com/lO0qImoUad

Trump and the empty chairs was a masterful stroke if he intended to draw Clint Eastwood senility comparisons.

Donald Trump is now holding a press conference next to two empty chairs for Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi. The sad part is Trump probably thinks Chuck and Nancy are actually sitting in those chairs.

WH Trump visual with empty chairs good, but perhaps disingenuous. Doubtful Pelosi and Schumer would be on both flanks. Possible, I guess.

Trump, Ryan, McConnell with empty chairs at WH
But they know they need Pelosi/Schumer votes to pass year-end spending bill
