Unlike Ben Carson, Ted Cruz Would ‘Absolutely Love’ to Host SNL
Last week, Ben Carson gave an interview to Bloomberg where he said that won’t appear on Saturday Night Live because running for president is too serious to be mixed in with the “lightness of comedy.”
The variety show is well known for having presidential hopefuls on, with Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump already representing the competitors for 2016. As for Ted Cruz, the Texas senator was asked about his interest during a Friday talk with C-SPAN, where he said he’d totally be up to host an episode.
“I would love to do it. I grew up watching SNL as a kid, I think their political satire is hysterical,” Cruz said to Steve Scully. “The actress they have playing Hillary [Kate McKinnon] has her dead-on.”
Cruz also described his admiration for SNL‘s recent take on Bernie Sanders, whose portrayal by Larry David has been lauded by the media and Sanders himself as a tremendous depiction.
“I told Bernie Sanders just the other day, I called him ‘Larry’ for Larry David because David’s performance — that was Bernie,” Cruz said. “He has captured him perfectly.”
