Watch Chance the Rapper and Skrillex Remix Stephen Colbert’s Monologue

While much may not be known just yet about the plans that new Showrunner Chris Licht has in store for the Late Show franchise, the venerable comedy program is still charging through 2016 with host Stephen Colbert at the helm. And although many of the segments, desk pieces, and monologues recently have understandably been election-focused, Colbert and Co. took a bit of a different turn on Tuesday night.

Unexpectedly part-way through the show’s opening monologue, the DJ air horns came out full blare as Skrillex and Chance the Rapper joined Colbert on stage to remix a handful of his monologue jokes. Suffice it to say that this isn’t exactly the type of opener that stalwart David Letterman ever rocked during his tenure, but Colbert’s energy — and perhaps a shift in approach for the show — makes the bit work.

Chance the Rapper is enjoying a fair bit of well-deserved attention these days; the 23-year-old’s Coloring Book mixtape which was released last month has opened to critical acclaim, and includes tracks produced by Bill de Blasio‘s phone buddy Kanye West. Chance and Skrillex later performed “Show Me Love” on the Late Show.
