Right-wing firebrand Milo Yiannopoulos is holding a press conference / free speech rally today in front of Simon & Schuster’s headquarters in New York City. The event is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. EST.
It is likely that Yiannopoulos’ press conference will center around his lawsuit against Simon & Schuster after the agency revoked their publication deal for his book, Dangerous. Simon & Schuster made their decision earlier this year while Yiannopoulos was dealing with fallout from a major controversy that eventually resulted in his departure from Breitbart.
Back in February, Yiannopoulos faced enormous public pressure after an old video emerged where the conservative provocateur seemed to defend pedophilia. Yiannopoulos struck back against the insinuations early on, but the controversy caused the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) to disinvite him after he was originally asked to give a keynote speech. Yiannopoulos resigned as Breitbart’s tech editor shortly afterwards.
Yiannopoulos self-published his book after Simon & Schuster cancelled their arrangement with him, and the “most controversial book of the decade” has already seen significant online sales numbers. In a recent Facebook statement, Yiannopoulos announced his plans to hold an event in front of the publishing agency’s building in order to send a message about the “how badly they screwed up.”
Yiannopoulos previously announced that he plans to sue Simon & Schuster for $10 million for violating their contract with him over the book. Today’s presser is expected to focus on this topic, as well as Yiannopoulos’ independent media ventures.
