Weiner: Why’s Bernie Sanders Trying to Win Nomination of a Party He Always Rejected?

weinerAnthony Weiner wants to know why Bernie Sanders is running for the nomination of a party he always rejected.

Now, let’s just get this out there right off the bat: yes, Weiner’s wife Huma Abedin works for Hillary Clinton and, to be fair, Weiner acknowledges in his Business Insider piece today, “My wife works for Hillary so there’s that.”

But even beyond that, Weiner says he doesn’t understand what Sanders is doing. Now, of course, the prevailing assumption here is that Sanders is running as a Democrat, despite being an independent who self-identifies as a socialist, because it gets him more credibility and attention to run in one of the two major parties as opposed to a third-party run.

However, Weiner argues, “While we were together in Congress, if I was ever homesick for some five borough flavor… I could just light a Bernie bomb by prodding him about his party affiliation. The query always got a typically bombastic reaction out of Bernie.’

According to Weiner, Sanders always thought Democrats were “too cautious and lacking imagination” and so he wants to know why Sanders now “wants to not only be a member of the party but its standard bearer.”
