‘You Were Just Quoting Sean Hannity’: CNN’s Acosta Gets Heated with Sean Spicer

The first question to Sean Spicer at today’s press briefing was by ABC’s Jonathan Karl about the Senate Intelligence Committee’s conclusion that they have seen “no indications” that Trump Tower was the subject of any surveillance by the U.S. government last year.

Karl brought up how Spicer, earlier this week, said that President Trump was “extremely confident” his wiretapping tweets would be vindicated.

The press sec proceeded to defend Trump by citing a number of news reports he apparently based this claim off of, making it clear that the president stands by what he said. He argued that there’s a serious media bias when it comes to covering this, as opposed to coverage of statements by public officials saying there is no evidence of Russian collusion with the Trump camp.

As for the Senate Intelligence Committee, Spicer insisted they said they just haven’t seen all the information “at this time.”

He read from the New York Times and other news outlets, also citing Sean Hannity. CNN’s Jim Acosta picked up on that in particular, remarking with some bewilderment, “You were just quoting Sean Hannity there.”

Spicer said he’s “cherry-picking” what he cited, but Acosta shot back that he’s “refusing to answer” the question when it comes to conclusions from intel committees in the House and Senate.

The duo then got into a heated back-and-forth as Acosta said it sounds like the White House is changing their story on wiretapping because that specific charge has been debunked. He asked, “What’s it gonna be next?”

Spicer dismissed his “cute” question and insisted that Congress “has not been provided all the information” yet.
