‘I Have To Do My Job’: Mike Johnson Claims He’s Not Worried About Being Ousted After Passing Ukraine Aid
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) claimed he is not worried about the motion to vacate his seat following the passage of $61 billion in aid to Ukraine.
Johnson spoke with reporters following the aid package passing by a vote of 311 to 112 on Saturday.
Last month, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) brought forward the motion to vacate the speaker following the passage of a $1.2 trillion spending minibus.
Moreover, hardline right-wing lawmakers, including Greene, have slammed the Speaker for his “betrayal” in bringing the aid package vote before the House floor at all.
Reporters pressed Johnson on whether he would work out a deal with House Democrats if the motion to vacate is brought to a vote. The speaker noted that he is going to “let the chips fall where they may” regarding the motion.
“No, listen, as I’ve said many times, I don’t walk around this building being worried about a motion to vacate,” Johnson noted. “I have to do my job. We did. I’ve done here what I believe to be the right thing and that is to allow the House to work its will.”
“And as I’ve said, you do the right thing and you let the chips fall where they may. I will continue to do that,” he added.
