Former Vice President Dick Cheney will be voting for Vice President Kamala Harris in November, his daughter former GOP congresswoman Liz Cheney said on Friday afternoon at an event in Texas.

The once-rising star in the Republican Party – who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump and who sat on the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 riots and the storming of the U.S. Capitol – made the revelation in Austin at the Texas Tribune Festival.

“Dick Cheney will be voting for Kamala Harris,” Liz Cheney said when pressed by the Tribune about her father’s take on the 2024 election.

In a statement issued later, the elder Cheney said, “In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again. As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution. That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.”

Bryan Metzger with Business Insider reported Liz Cheney disclosed her father’s preferred candidate shortly after she endorsed the Democrat seeking to unseat Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) – Rep. Colin Allred (D-TX).

Dick Cheney, who was revered by many conservatives during his time as former President George W. Bush’s right-hand man during his eight years in the White House, ripped Trump as a “coward” during the 2022 midterms in an ad for his daughter’s ill-fated Wyoming re-election campaign.

“In our nation’s 246-year history, there has never been an individual who has posed a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” the elder Cheney said. “He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him.”

The former vice president – who once supported Trump – concluded, “He is a coward. A real man wouldn’t lie to his supporters. He lost his election and he lost big. I know it, he knows it, and deep down, I think most Republicans know it.”

Liz Cheney was ultimately unseated by Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-WY) after receiving only 28.9 percent of votes to Hageman’s 66.3 percent in the 2022 primary.

Hageman went on to win the general election with the support of almost 70 percent of Wyoming voters to Democrat Lynnette Grey Bull’s 24.9 percent.
