MSNBC Guest Claims Trump Will Have FCC ‘Report’ to Him to ‘Control’ Shows Like Morning Joe
Donny Deutsch claimed on Morning Joe on Thursday that Donald Trump will use the FCC to “control” news coverage that is unfavorable to him.
Deutsch, a frequent Morning Joe guest, told Joe Scarborough that Trump would have the FCC report directly to him to “control” shows like Morning Joe.
“He says what he’s going to do. What he’s going to do to your point, Joe, is have the FCC report to him so he will be able to control shows like this. He wants the FCC to report to him,” Deutsch said. “He wants to bring the Insurrection Act back so he can turn military troops on his own people. He wants to weaponize, as you said, the Justice Department to go after his enemies. He wants to put women on a registry in red states for abortion. That’s if he wins.”
Trump suggested in January that NBC and CNN should have their “licenses” pulled for not airing his victory speech after the Iowa caucus in full.
“NBC and CNN refused to air my victory speech. I think of it because they are crooked. They’re dishonest, and frankly, they should have their licenses or whatever they have. Take it away,” he said.
The FCC, however, does not actually regulate cable news networks.
Deutsch and Scarborough raised alarms about a number of other declarations by Trump, mainly from a recent Time interview. The former president said he’s open to deploying the U.S. military to cities to deport illegal migrants, he’d let red states “monitor women’s pregnancies and prosecute those who violate abortion bans,” and he claimed there’s an “anti-white feeling in this country.”
Trump also did not commit to accepting the 2024 presidential results and said potential violence around the election will depend on its “fairness.”
“If we don’t win, you know, it depends,” he said. “It always depends on the fairness of the election.”
Scarborough noted on Thursday that all of Deutsch’s accusations against Trump were based on the former president’s actual words.
“What you just said, somebody out there in the Trump sort of stratosphere will put it on a website and say, ‘look at Donny Deutsch freaking out,’ right? And that’s their ploy. That’s their lie,” he argued.
The former Republican congressman accused “Trump media” of suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” arguing they don’t put enough weight behind his actual comments.
“All you’re doing is repeating his words,” Scarborough told Deutsch.
