Nikki Haley Tells Persistent Bret Baier She’ll Never Be Trump’s Running Mate: ‘It’s Done’

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley definitively ruled out being Donald Trump’s running mate if the former president wins the GOP nomination, which looks increasingly likely.

The former South Carolina governor has been campaigning in her home state ahead of Saturday’s primary there, where Trump is expected to win easily. Haley, who also served as Trump’s ambassador to the U.N., has resisted calls from prominent Republicans to drop out.

Appearing on Friday’s Special Report on Fox News, Haley was asked by Bret Baier if she sees herself winning any primaries,

“Where can you paint a picture on Super Tuesday where you can get a victory?” he asked, looking past Saturday’s South Carolina primary. Haley responded:

HALEY: We’re gonna see what happens tomorrow. But look, the problem when people say, “Why is she doing this? Why is she doing that?” At first, they were like, “She’s doing this because she wants to be vice president.” I think we’ve pretty much settled that. Then they’re saying–

BAIER: Have we settled it?

HALEY: There is no political motivation. If there was political motivation, I would have gotten out of this a long time ago.

BAIER: By the way, have we settled the vice president thing?

HALEY: Of course we’ve settled it! I mean there is in no way–

BAIER: So, it’s done.

HALEY: I’ve said it for months, it’s done. Also, looking at a political future – I wouldn’t be doing this if I was worried about a political future. I would’ve gotten out already. I’m doing this trying to wake up our country.

Baier went on to ask Haley about Democratic presidential candidate and Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN), who floated the idea of being Haley’s vice presidential candidate on a so-called “unity ticket.”

“Dean Phillips, who’s obviously running on the Democratic primary – not to much success – but saying that he would be your running mate if you so chose that,” the host said. “Would you?”

“I’m a Republican,” she replied. “I’m running as a Republican. I’m running trying to wake people up that, if they nominate Donald Trump in this primary, we will lose a general election. Mark my words.”

Trump has repeatedly mocked Haley and demeaned her intelligence by calling her “Birdbrain.”
