Fox News Chief Political Analyst Brit Hume took aim at a group of Republican senators who hounded Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle in the hallway of the Republican National Convention on Wednesday, demanding answers about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump last weekend.

“This was an assassination attempt! You owe the people answers. You owe president Trump answers!” Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) raged in a clip she immediately posted to social media.

Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), the third-ranking Senate Republican and a likely candidate to replace outgoing GOP leader Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY), also fumed at Cheatle, saying, “It’s stonewalling!”

Hume pulled no punches in hammering those antics, writing on X, “Whatever blame Secret Service director Kim Cheatle deserves for the colossal security failure of last Saturday in Pa., the Republican Senators harassing her in the hallway of the GOP convention in Milwaukee Wednesday did themselves no credit.”

“They will have her before them and under oath soon enough. What they did in the convention hall was pure grandstanding,” he added.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), along with many other GOP leaders, has called for Cheatle to resign or be fired following a shooter’s bullet injuring former President Trump’s ear in a very near fatal attempt on his life. Cheatle spoke to CNN this week and said she and the US Secret Service were “solely responsible” for securing Trump’s rally where the shooting took place. “At that particular site, we divided up areas of responsibility, but the Secret Service is totally responsible for the design and implementation and the execution of the site,” she added.
