LISTEN: Trump Doesn’t Dispute Report He Told Pence He’d Go Down in History as a ‘P*ssy’ If He Didn’t Overturn Election
ABC News’ Jonathan Karl shared more audio from his interview with former President Donald Trump Sunday, this excerpt also concerning Mike Pence, for his upcoming book Betrayal.
The first piece of audio Karl shared was an absolutely stunning moment when Trump shrugged off the “Hang Mike Pence!” chants from Capitol rioters on January 6.
During a report on Sunday’s ABC This Week, Karl’s reporting contained another brief snippet of audio with Trump’s reaction to a report he suggested his own vice president would be a “pussy” for not going along with him.
In the days following the storming of the Capitol on January 6, there were a lot of reports about what was going on behind the scenes in the Trump administration. One report in particular from The New York Times quoted Trump as saying in a call early on January 6, “You can either go down in history as a patriot, or you can go down in history as a pussy.”
“There was a report, excuse my language…” Karl asked Trump in March. “…that you talked to him that morning and you said, ‘You can be a patriot or you can be a pussy.’ Did you really say that or is that an incorrect…”
“I wouldn’t dispute it,” Trump said.
“Really?” Karl asked.
“I wouldn’t dispute it,” Trump reiterated.
The audio was revealed as part of Karl’s new reporting from the book that then-Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis wrote up a memo planning how Pence could unilaterally overturn the 2020 election results.
