Trump Defends Sending Troops to LA With Wild Claim He Saved City From Burning to the Ground

Trump

President Donald Trump claimed early Tuesday morning that his decision to “SEND IN THE TROOPS” single-handedly saved Los Angeles from being burned to the ground.

Amid an ongoing death spiral of conflict surrounding peaceful ICE protests in Los Angeles that have occasionally turned violent, Trump ordered the California National Guard to assist in keeping the peace, amid protests from California Governor Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass. What started as a demonstration against ICE raids has evolved into something of a political theater, where every participant holds a principled position, but things seem to be getting much worse.

It is in this context that Trump took to Truth Social to defend his decision to send military support to the LAPD. He referenced the fire catastrophes of Pacific Palisades and Altadena and insisted that if not for his actions three days ago, LA would also have been burned to the ground. Trump wrote:

If I didn’t “SEND IN THE TROOPS” to Los Angeles the last three nights, that once beautiful and great City would be burning to the ground right now, much like 25,000 houses burned to the ground in L.A. do to an incompetent Governor and Mayor – Incidentally, the much more difficult, time consuming, and stringent FEDERAL PERMITTING PROCESS is virtually complete on these houses, while the easy and simple City and State Permits are disastrously bungled up and WAY BEHIND SCHEDULE! They are a total mess, and will be for a long time. People want to rebuild their houses. Call your incompetent Governor and Mayor, the Federal permitting is DONE!!!

Trump’s curious pivot to his military intervention into Los Angeles to what he called the building permits needed to restore the fire-ravaged communities from the LA wildfires may suggest to some that his hyperbolic claim that he kept the city from burning down was not, in fact, a serious claim but the sort of kayfabe commentary that gets morons like me to write about.

Wait.
