Trump Enters Superdome To Mix of Cheers and Jeers

President Donald Trump entered the New Orleans Caesars Superdome on Sunday evening to a mix of cheers and jeers just before Super Bowl LIX got underway.

Trump became the first sitting US president to attend the big game. With the Kansas City Chiefs set to take on the Philadelphia Eagles, Trump entered the building with a fist raised:

The Fox NFL broadcast booth commented on Trump’s history-making walk. The president was surrounded by Secret Service agents.

The official NFL X account also shared a snap of Trump with New Orleans first responders and family members of those who lost loved ones in the New Year’s Day terror attack in the French Quarter.

Trump sat down with Fox News host Bret Baier ahead of the game and picked the Chiefs to three-peat as Super Bowl champions.

“I guess you have to say that when a quarterback wins as much as he has won, I have to go with Kansas City,” Trump said of  quarterback Patrick Mahomes. “I have to go with Kansas City. At the same time, Philadelphia has a fantastic [team]. It’s gonna be just a great game.”

Trump also showered Mahomes’ wife, Brittany Mahomes, with praise.

“She’s a Trump fan. She’s a MAGA fan, so I happen to love her, but she’s a great person,” he said.

The president also praised Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts.

“The other team, the quarterback really knows how to win,” Trump said. “He is a great, great quarterback.”

Trump added he was surprised to learn he was the first president to attend a Super Bowl.

“Well, first of all, I’m very surprised to hear that,” Trump told Baier. “I would have assumed many presidents came. But I think just the spirit of the country. The country has taken on a whole new life. I thought it would be a good thing for the country to have the president be at the game.”
