Don Jr. Bailed on Senate Intel Testimony Before Burr Issued Subpoena: CNN Report

CNN has new reporting this afternoon on the Senate Intelligence Committee––led by Senator Richard Burr (R- NC)––subpoena of Donald Trump Jr. and the tensions that led to it.

Many Republicans have been critical of the move and questioned Burr in particular. Per CNN, the chairman had said the president’s son backed out of deals they made for him to testify:

“[Burr] told his colleagues that the panel has been engaged in talks with Trump Jr. since last December, and that he had agreed to voluntarily be interviewed on two separate occasions before backing off, according to sources familiar with the matter. That move prompted Burr and Democratic Sen. Mark Warner to ultimately issue the subpoena for his testimony, after Trump Jr.’s legal team objected to the scope and breadth of the planned interview, according to one source.”

Now that the subpoena has been issued, Trump Jr. is reportedly “balking” at coming in to answer more questions.

After news broke of the subpoena last week, a Trump Jr. ally railed against “an obvious PR stunt from a so-called ‘Republican’ Senator too cowardly to stand up to his boss Mark Warner and the rest of the resistance Democrats on the committee.”
