Trump Insists He’ll ‘NEVER’ Restrict Birth Control — Hours After Suggesting He Would Do Just That

Former President Donald Trump pushed back hard on reports that he was considering restrictions on birth control following Tuesday morning comments made by … Trump.
Trump provided a Tuesday morning interview with anchor Jon Delano of CBS Pittsburgh KDKA, who was surprised by Trump’s admission that he would be “looking at” restrictions on contraception. Trump was straight out asked if he supported “restrictions on a person’s right to contraception?”
Trump replied, “Well, we’re looking at that, and I’m going to have a policy on that very shortly. And I think it’s something that you’ll find interesting. And I’d see — it’s another issue that’s very interesting.” That answer leaves open a lot of room for potential restrictions.
But Trump appears to have changed his mind on the issue, perhaps fueled by the political blow back his comments have immediately received. Trump posted on Truth Social:
I HAVE NEVER, AND WILL NEVER ADVOCATE IMPOSING RESTRICTIONS ON BIRTH CONTROL, or other contraceptives. This is a Democrat fabricated lie, MISINFORMATION/DISINFORMATION, because they have nothing else to run on except FAILURE, POVERTY, AND DEATH. I DO NOT SUPPORT A BAN ON BIRTH CONTROL, AND NEITHER WILL THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!
It’s not clear how Trump sees his own comments as a “Democrat fabricated lie, MISINFORMATION/DISINFORMATION” unless he is, impossibly, blaming himself for said lie.
A verbatim transcript of that portion of the interview reviews precisely that Trump refused to say no to restrictions on contraception, clearly suggesting that his comprehensive policy on a person’s right to birth control will be coming out in a week, which he said was “very smart.”
JON DELANO: So related to this is the whole issue of contraceptives. Do you support any restrictions on a person’s right to contraception?
DONALD TRUMP: Well, we’re looking at that and I’m going to have a policy on that very shortly. And I think it’s something that you’ll find interesting. And I’d see — it’s another issue that’s very interesting.
But you will, you will find it, I think, very smart. I think it’s a smart decision, but we’ll be releasing it very soon.
JON DELANO: Well, that suggests that that you may want to support some restrictions. Like the morning after pill or something.
DONALD TRUMP: We are also, you know, things really do have a lot to do with the states. And some states are going to have different policies than others.
But I’m coming out within a week or so with a very comprehensive policy, which I’ll get to you immediately.
JON DELANO: Okay, good.
