President Donald Trump and the White House Coronavirus Task Force will be holding their next press briefing at 5 p.m ET on Friday.
During Thursday’s briefing, President Trump made headlines for suggesting that disinfectants could be injected into coronavirus patients in an effort to fight the virus.
“I see the disinfectant, one minute. Is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside, or almost a cleaning?” the president questioned. “Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it’d be interesting to check that so that you’ll have to use medical doctors with. But it sounds interesting to me. So we’ll see, but the whole concept of the light, where it goes in one minute. That’s pretty powerful.”
President Trump walked back on the comments, Friday, insisting he had been sarcastic.
“What you just heard is the President of the United States just lying right there,” said CNN’s Anderson Cooper in response. “There was no sarcasm… He’s in like Soviet fashion trying to rewrite what we all know and saw as though we are all morons.”
At Thursday’s briefing, President Trump was also confronted by the Washington Post’s Philip Rucker, who the president referred to as a “total faker.”
