Bill Maher: Democrats Should Run on Weed the Same Way Republicans Run on Guns

In honor of 4/20, Bill Maher closed his show by giving some highly critical advice to Democrats ahead of the 2018 midterms.

He began by mocking former House Speaker John Boehner, one once was opposed to legalizing marijuana but has recently joined on the board of directors of one of the largest marijuana growing companies in the country.

“You’d think Boehner cried a lot before, wait until he gets stoned and sees a sunset,” Maher quipped.

The Real Time host then warned Democrats that they’re “going to lose this issue” because some Republicans “smell the money.” He also expressed skepticism of the “blue wave” that many are predicting in November.

“Blue Wave, sounds like an off-brand aftershave at The Dollar Store,” Maher joked. “‘Blue Wave,’ from the makers of Hillary Clinton‘s ‘Inevitable.'”

Maher insisted that the upcoming election is “hardly in the bag” because Democrats are “electorally challenged” when it comes to showing up in the midterms and went on to say that the issue of legalizing pot would be a “sweetener” to the liberal base.

“Yes, we love weed the way Republicans love their guns. Every election, Republicans run on ‘They’re coming for your guns!’ We need to talk about weed that way and turn potheads into single-issue voters too,” Maher continued. “And it should not be that hard because nobody is really coming for your guns, but Jeff Sessions really does want to take away your pot, for which there is no protection like the Second Amendment.”

He then referenced the gun control movement in the wake of the Parkland shooting, but added that being anti-gun “isn’t a lifestyle” while guns and weed are.
