Bret Baier Questions JD Vance on Trump’s Bad Poll Numbers: ‘Not Great’
Vice President JD Vance defended his and President Donald Trump’s record despite bad poll numbers when questioned about the data by Bret Baier.
Friday’s edition of Fox News’s Special Report aired part two of Baier’s interview with Vance, who on Thursday visited a steel plant in South Carolina. The sit-down came as Trump’s approval ratings are substantially underwater after he imposed massive tariffs on the vast majority of imported goods, prompting the economy to contract in the first quarter of 2025.
“I know the president likes to talk about polls and how he’s not a fan of how the polls are done,” Baier said, perhaps alluding to Trump’s criticism of Fox’s pollster after it showed the president polling poorly. “But the approval ratings for you, for the president, if you look at the polls – not just one, but a span of them – you know, are not great 100 days in. They’re great on border security. But on the economy and overall approval, it’s a little underwater. And how do you look at that?”
Vance responded by saying that all the polls are wrong.
“So, I’m a firm believer, Bret, that in the modern era in 2025, opinion pollsters just don’t know how to capture most Americans,” the vice president replied. “They don’t answer the phones. If they do answer the phone, they hang up immediately. I saw this in the 2024 election.”
Vance went on to claim that “every mainstream media pollster” predicted that former Vice President Kamala Harris would win all the swing states.
“You’ve got to be able to go to people where they are,” Vance continued. “I think that, again, you do a good job, you worry about the polls later. The politics will take care of itself. For the reasons I just said, I really am skeptical of the polls, Bret. I also just don’t really care that much about the polls, even if they were accurate, because if we do a good job, people see the results, then in three years, people will be talking about what a great job Donald Trump and J.D. Vance did. That’s all I really care about.”
