Brit Hume Defends Trump’s Frustration With Special Counsel: Might Be Because He’s Innocent
Fox News contributor Brit Hume has an interesting theory surrounding President Donald Trump and his behavior in regard to the investigation into Russian collusion by special counsel Robert Mueller.
While extremely defensive behavior and perceived attempts to sabotage an investigation may seem like indications of guilt to many, Hume believes that it is possible that Trump’s actions may actually be a result of his genuine innocence. According to Hume, Trump is so unconventional that we may have to evaluate him the opposite of how you would normally evaluate someone.
On Wednesday’s The Story with Martha MacCallum, Hume described what he considered to be the “unorthodox” style of Donald Trump.
“Mr. Trump is so different from any President that we’ve ever seen before that we tend to read him as we would other Presidents,” said Hume. “His continued irritation at the special counsel’s investigation and his behavior about it makes you think that he has must something to hide. But I don’t think that you can necessarily judge him that way. It may be that he’s innocent, he knows he’s innocent and he just wishes these people would come out and say he’s innocent the way he wanted Comey to.”
MacCallum echoed Hume’s sentiments about the unique disposition of the President.
“You just have to throw out the background and the history on how these things go,” she said.
Aside from the investigation into potential collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians, Hume said the President’s seemingly combative behavior toward Jeff Sessions may be that he is just trying to get the Attorney General to move on some of these issues and reading into other motives may be futile.
Hume argued that “everything that the administration does with few exceptions is gonna be interpreted in the most negative possible light. So we have to guard against that.”
The Fox News stalwart added, “He’s hard to understand. I don’t think many of us understand him very well. Newt Gingrich has a whole book out attempting to understand him and I’m not sure that even Newt although he has some access to him understands him very well either.”
